The CPSE appoints James Burgess, Director of Training and Grants Administration, International Association of Fire Fighters, to the Commission on Professional Credentialing as the Labor representative.
James Burgess is the Director of Training and Grants Administration at the International Association of Fire Fighters, where he oversees a portfolio of federal awards and cooperative agreements with federal agencies including the Department of Homeland Security, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, Department of Transportation, and Public Safety Canada. He directs the IAFF’s comprehensive catalog of firefighter training programs, which serve over 355,000 firefighters across North America, and represents the IAFF on national boards and committees dedicated to firefighter safety, hazardous materials, and professional education.
Mr. Burgess served as a Senior Firefighter and Hazardous Materials Technician with the Greensboro Fire Department in Greensboro, North Carolina. He previously served as a State Director with the Firefighter Cancer Support Network and remains active in community service as a youth athletics coach with the Greensboro YMCA. Mr. Burgess holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire and Emergency Services Administration from Fayetteville State University.
